Background
The Giving Hand was founded in 1994 by a group of activists, philanthropists and volunteers. We are a global organization with more than 1,000 staff members and 2,000 volunteers. We are funded by individual donors, foundations and governments. Since our founding, we have provided aid to more than 100 countries and regions. We focus on education, health, livelihoods and disaster response. We are committed to transparency, accountability and impact.

Our Roadmap

2020Global Emergency ResponseLaunched emergency food distribution programs across multiple countries during the global crisis. Distributed food packages in Nigeria (Lagos), Pakistan, Nepal, Ghana (organized community dinners), Bali (neighborhood distributions), Somalia, and began our extensive humanitarian work in Gaza.

2021Infrastructure & Community BuildingEstablished permanent infrastructure in Burundi with the first mosque (Masjid el Gair), second mosque in Bujumbura, and opened an orphanage in North Bujumbura. Continued food aid in Brazil (meal distributions) and Gambia, while expanding our food security programs.

2022Education & Water AccessCompleted the second orphanage/school in Burundi and launched comprehensive food security projects. Conducted water well site visits in Uganda to identify communities in need. Established orphanage support programs in Morocco, focusing on long-term educational development.

2023Colombia Initiative LaunchLaunched major humanitarian efforts in Colombia, raising $3,000 for beds in Medellín, distributing 500 pairs of Nike shoes and 300 sleeping bags. Continued our Morocco orphanage programs and began expanding documentation efforts across our project sites.

2024Water & Accessibility FocusOpened 7 new water wells in Uganda and provided carpet for the local mosque. Visited and supported a disabled children's orphanage in Tunisia. Continued Colombia programs with ongoing support for vulnerable communities while maintaining our Morocco and Gaza operations.

2025Sustained Support & Gaza FocusContinuing our comprehensive Colombia programs while maintaining our most extensive operation in Gaza with 400+ projects including water tanks, baby formula, diapers, wheelchairs, food packages, bread meals, pizza for children, children's day activities, and clothing/shoe distributions.
